This June Nominet has approved plans to offer a new stubby .uk domain name. This is the biggest change in the .uk namespace since it began and will bring the UK in line with its European counterparts such as France .fr , Germany .de and Spain .es
Any completely new domain name will be sold on a first come first served basis but if you are already the owner of a .co.uk domain name you will be given first dibs on attaining the .uk equivalent of your current address and the new stubby version will be reserved for you. There will be a five year window where customers will have the right to buy their new shorter domain name after which it will be up for grabs.
The cost of the shorter .uk domain names will be the same as the .co.uk. which is still staying, along with all the other domains ending in .uk that currently exist
