Sustainable Backup Power. Uninterrupted Service.

Recent events across Europe have reinforced the importance of resilient infrastructure and secure energy supplies. As organisations continue to rely on always-on digital services, ensuring the continuity of critical IT systems has never been more important.

At Datanet, business continuity has always been a priority. Following our previous update regarding fuel resilience, we’d like to reassure customers that both our data centre and network partners continue to invest in resilient infrastructure, sustainable backup power and comprehensive contingency planning to ensure services remain available, whatever the circumstances.

Confidence in the UK’s Energy Supply

ARK Data Centres has recently published its latest Electricity Outlook 2026 statement in response to the current energy supply environment across Europe. The statement concludes that the risk of any material disruption to UK electricity or gas supplies in the near term remains very low.

According to ARK, the UK benefits from a diverse electricity generation mix, primarily comprising gas, nuclear and renewable sources (predominantly wind), which together account for approximately 88% of total supply. The remaining contribution is provided by other generation technologies, including biomass, hydro and solar, supplemented by imports via interconnectors with France, Belgium, Denmark, Norway and the Netherlands.

The UK is relatively well positioned in terms of gas security due to its diversified supply base. Strategic domestic production from the North Sea continues to contribute, despite a long-term reduction, and is complemented by established pipeline connections with Norway. In addition, the UK has a number of Liquefied Natural Gas(LNG) import and processing terminals, which play a critical role in supporting both UK and wider European gas markets. Notably, only a very small proportion of UK gas supply in the past year has originated from the Middle East.

Prepared for the Unexpected

Whilst the likelihood of any disruption is considered very low, ARK has extensive resilience measures in place should they ever be required. Their facilities are equipped with standby generators capable of supporting continuous operation for a minimum of 72 hours, alongside fuel resupply agreements with multiple suppliers to support extended operation during any prolonged utility outage. Comprehensive Business Continuity Plans are also maintained and regularly reviewed to ensure continued operations and secure fuel logistics should an unplanned event occur. This layered approach to resilience is one of the many reasons Datanet chose ARK as the home for our colocation services.

Resilient Connectivity Across Europe

Infrastructure resilience extends beyond the data centre itself. Reliable connectivity is equally important, which is why Datanet partners with leading network providers such as Zayo Europe.

Following the recent wildfires across southern Europe, Zayo confirmed that although it operates fibre networks in some of the affected regions, its European network has been built entirely underground, providing significant protection from weather-related events such as wildfires.

Zayo also operates 24/7 network monitoring, local response teams throughout Europe and built-in network redundancy, ensuring that if an incident does occur, services can be restored as quickly and safely as possible.

Datanet’s Commitment to Business Continuity

Our customers trust us to host infrastructure that is critical to their business operations. That trust is built on selecting resilient partners, investing in reliable infrastructure and maintaining a proactive approach to risk management. By combining ARK’s highly resilient data centre facilities with diverse carrier connectivity and Datanet’s experienced UK-based support team, we continue to provide a platform designed to withstand unexpected events while delivering the high levels of availability our customers expect.

While no organisation can eliminate every risk, careful planning, resilient infrastructure and established emergency procedures ensure that your systems remain in safe hands.
