New Virtualisation Platform now live @ Datanet

Datanet is pleased to announce that our new Virtual Machine Platform hosted in our flagship Ark Farnborough Data Centre with optional failover to our secondary facility in London’s Docklands, is now available for customer workloads.

“After extensive testing and successfully migrating Datanet’s internal systems away from our legacy VMware platform, we are now ready to start customer deployments and migrations onto our new platform.” Mark Jennings – Infrastructure Technical Lead.

Datanet have been providing both standalone Virtual Machines and more complex hybrid solutions utilising VMware’s vSphere platform for many years since 2008. With the acquisition of VMware by Broadcom, we found that the new licensing model no longer allows us the flexibility required by our customers.

After looking at other technologies available and carrying out a thorough technical evaluation, we were pleased to confirm that with Proxmox VE, which utilises the ubiquitous KVM hypervisor, we can provide the same benefits of a highly available, scalable and flexible capability, enabling an easy on ramp for customers into our state of the art Farnborough Data Centre.

All our Virtual Machine customers continue to benefit from Veeam powered backups to our secure remote data centre as standard.

Additionally, we now have sufficient capacity in our Docklands data centre to offer a 2nd site solution to customers requiring the additional peace of mind.
