Datanet Invests in New EMC² SAN at AHF Data Centre

EMC SANEMC² is the clear market leader in data storage, the appropriate choice for enhanced data storage for the latest phase of our new data centre. The new SAN at Aspen House will allow more flexibility within your hosted server environments, along with enhanced security and reliability of data storage and recovery.  Datanet has taken a big step forward in terms of investing in an EMC² Celerra NS-480 SAN solution, providing improved service capability to our Aspen House data centre.  To compliment the new storage device we have also invested in new Dell blade servers to further strengthen our VMware hosting platform with increased performance, scalability and reliability.
Datanet will be able to provide differentiated service offerings on our enterprise platform using either the EMC² infrastructure SAN or the proven Dell iSCI platform – SAN and NAS.  So what are the advantages?  Datanet is able to offer more tailored solutions with frequent, quicker snapshots and full system restores; a tiered service to cater for high end e-commerce and database solutions down to single website solutions, faster VMware solutions provisioning; quick turnaround for VMware amendments and higher service levels.  EMC² storage technology has excellent compatibility with the VMware platform, making a high performance, very stable, reliable, enterprise grade virtual platform.  Call our Sales Team now on 0845 130 3010 to find out more!

Firewall Premier Support – Changes to Service

As a result of Juniper NetScreen 5GT firewall devices (both 10 and unlimited users) becoming ‘end of life’, it has been necessary to review our current Premier Support processes due to the difficulties we are having in obtaining new NetScreen 5GT stock.  Consequently, in the event of existing 5GT (or older XT and XP models) firewall failing and our having to send a replacement device under Premier Support, it is likely that the replacement model will be a Juniper NetScreen SSG5.  This firewall is an unlimited device and offers increased functionality including:

  •  25 concurrent VPN tunnels (5GT allows 10)
  • 8 security zones gives you the ability to ser up DMZ
  • Increased throughput for both VPN and Internet traffic

From 1st November 2010, in the event that you require a replacement for a 5GT firewall under Premier Support and it is replaced by an SSG5, we will need to charge an excess fee of £100.  This fee reflects the superiority of the SSG5 and the fact that this device will not allow us to copy an existing configuration across, but instead will require complete reconfiguration which will take considerably more engineering time.  The excess charge is not applicable when replacing like for like, eg SSG for SSG.  Currently, Premier Support for a 10 user device has a monthly fee of £22.  This will be increase to £25 from 1st December 2010.

Caption Competition Winner Announced!

In June of this year Datanet held a caption competition.  Readers of our newsletter were asked to suggest a caption for the photograph below of Datanet’s MD Conleth McCallan receiving a BT ‘award for excellence’ from our BT Account Manager, Andy Pittman.  We are delighted to say that the competition was won by Darryn Purvis of Eden Outsourcing Limited (www.insideoutsourcing.co.uk), a Datanet customer based in Camberley, Surrey.  Darryn’s winning caption was “Hard to BT” and our second picture shows Darryn receiving his chocolates and Champagne prize from Nathan Smith, Eden Outsourcing account manager at Datanet.
