Datanet Is Expecting ......... The Arrival of 24Mb Broadband!

When speed really matters and time is of the essence, you need a fast Internet connection. New for spring 2010 is the Datanet 24Mb (ADSL2+) broadband service. In association with BT, Datanet will be introducing our new 24Mb broadband service based on BT's 21st Century Network.
ADSL2+ forms part of 21CN which is being introduced across the country in stages. Already, 45% of the country has been enabled, BT anticipates 55% completion by spring 2010 and 75% completion by spring 2011. It is hoped that 100% of the country will be enabled by 2012
This new service from Datanet will provide Internet connectivity over a 24Mb service which means that, in the vast majority of cases, the speed of your connection could be greatly enhanced. Even more exciting - your cost could be reduced!
To find out if your local BT exchange is ADSL2+ enabled, please follow this link Datanet's DSL Checker or alternatively, drop us an email with the numbers to OpsTeam@datanet.co.uk to register your interest and we will do the checking for you!
What is the difference between existing ADSL and ADSL2+?
The technology at the BT exchanges and how the connections are managed, has been completely modernised. The table below illustrates the main differences in these services.
ADSL Product | Download Speed | Upload Speed | Rate | Contention Ratio |
Standard ADSL 2000 | 2Mb | 256kb | Fixed | 50:1 |
Standard ADSL 8000 | Up to 8Mb | Up to 448kb | Adaptive | 50:1 |
Business ADSL 500 | .5Mb | 256kb | Fixed | 20:1 |
Business ADSL 1000 | 1Mb | 256kb | Fixed | 20:1 |
Business ADSL 2000 | 2Mb | 256kb | Fixed | 20:1 |
Premium ADSL 8000 | Up to 8Mb | Up to 832kb | Adaptive | 20:1 |
SoHo24 10GB download per month included | Up to 24Mb | Up to 1Mb | Adaptive | Uncontended |
Enterprise24 Unlimited download per month (AUP applies) ADSL2+ Elevated Priority Included* | Up to 24Mb | Up to 1Mb | Adaptive | Uncontended |
*ADSL2+ Elevated Priority - provides a minimum throughput of 8Mb for 90% of the time over the busiest 3-hour period
Sounds good? But what are the benefits?
The installation of this new technology has allowed for the increase in download speed of up to a massive 24Mbps. Additionally, the upload speed, which was historically 256kb on standard fixed rate ADSL products, may increase to up to 1Mb. The majority of existing connections should become even more stable than previously experienced.
Will you get the benefits of ADSL2+?
Hopefully! There will be situations that still affect the level of success of ADSL2+ for some customers, these include:-
- Distance between your location and the BT exchange
- Condition of the copper telephone lline from your location to the BT cabinet

Will my existing router work with ADSL2+?
All SpeedTouch 546 and 585i and Cisco 1800 routers supplied by Datanet are ADSL2+ compatible. Earlier models will probably not be compatible. The Cisco 1700 series of routers is not compatible.
If your router is not compatible and your serivce is an ADSL2+ product, your router will effectively sync at the rate of your previous ADSL product. Therefore, in order to benefit from the faster speed, you may need to update your equipment.

Will I need to reconfigure my modem/router for ADSL2+?
If you have been using a modem/router with your ADSL service, which is already ADSL2+ compatible, you will not need to reconfigure it. If you are in any doubt, please refer to the manufacturers instructions that came with your modem/router or call Datanet on 0845 130 6010 and we will be happy to help.
What do I do if my modem/router is not ADSL2+ compatible?
Firstly, don't worry! We can provide ADSL2+ compatible equipment and we'll even configure it for you! (subject to additional charge)
Will my existing firewall work with ADSL2+?
Of all the firewalls that Datanet has supplied, only one, the Netscreen 5XP will not operate at a speed that the new high speed ADSL2+ connection may achieve. There is a limitation of up to 10Mb if you use a Netscreen 5XP on your line as this is the capacity of the hardware.
